Bald Eagle

The Eagle Eye “attitude” look are bony projections of the skull that protect the eagle’s large and very important eyes. The two eyeballs together are larger than the eagle’s brain and give him eyesight more than three times better than ours. Potential prey can be spotted from a great distance.

An Eagle’s Talons
Looking like big meat hooks, actually they are more like fish hooks. With sharp points and a long curve on each talon, a slippery fish is easy to hold on to. Rough scales all over the toe also give extra gripping power. In fact, an eagle’s grip itself is much stronger than a man’s. A firm handshake with an eagle could bring tears to your eyes.

A Formidable Beak
Bald eagles have a strong hooked beak for tearing up fish and other meat into pieces that they can swallow. They stand on their food and pull upward with the beak to tear it. Bald eagles however, have a small voice for a national symbol. Often for movies a more ferocious sounding raptor such as a red tailed hawk is used as a voice stand-in.
